When families choose to pay privately

Care is needed now

A Medicaid application and assessment can take time. Paying privately lets help start while the paperwork moves, so your parent is not alone in the meantime.

More hours or more choice

You decide the days, the hours and the tasks that matter most, and you can change the plan as needs change.

Long-term care insurance

If your parent has a long-term care insurance policy, it may cover help at home from a licensed agency. We provide the visit records and plan of care insurers usually ask for.

Not sure which route fits? We will explain private pay and Medicaid side by side, honestly, and you choose.

What help at home looks like

Personal care

  • Bathing, dressing and grooming
  • Toileting and moving safely around the home
  • Meals, light housekeeping and laundry
  • Company and a steady daily routine

Home health aide support

  • Help with medications as directed
  • Simple exercises and mobility support
  • Watching for changes and reporting them
  • Support after a hospital or rehab stay

Respite for family caregivers

Regular hours off for the family member doing most of the caring, so care carries on while you rest, work or travel.

We provide non-medical personal care and home health aide services. We do not provide skilled nursing, but we work alongside your family member's doctors and visiting nurses.

How getting started works

  1. Call or send the form. A coordinator calls you back to understand the situation and answer your questions.
  2. Free consultation. We talk through needs, routine and schedule, and give you a clear quote before anything starts.
  3. We plan the visits. Days, hours and the tasks that matter most, matched to an aide.
  4. Care starts at home. We stay in touch with you and adjust the plan as needs change.

Questions families ask about paying privately

Can I pay privately for home care instead of going through Medicaid?

Yes. Many families pay privately, especially when they want help to start before a Medicaid application is finished, need more hours than a plan approves, or do not qualify for Medicaid. We can explain both routes so you can choose.

How much does private home care cost?

It depends on the number of hours, the days and the kind of help needed. Call us and a coordinator will talk through your situation and give you a clear quote before anything starts.

Does my parent's long-term care insurance cover this?

Many long-term care insurance policies cover help at home from a licensed home care agency. Every policy is different, so check your policy's home care benefit and waiting period. We can give you the visit records and plan of care that insurers usually ask for when you file a claim.

Which areas do you serve for private home care?

Our New York State home care licence covers Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Genesee and Chemung counties. If your family member lives outside those counties, we will tell you so and point you to NY Connects at 1-800-342-9871 to find an agency near them.

Can we start with a few hours a week and add more later?

Yes. Care plans change as needs change. Tell us what would help now and we will review the plan with you as things change. We will always tell you honestly what hours we can staff in your town.

Can private care start now and switch to Medicaid later?

Often, yes. If an application is in progress, we can explain how the Medicaid assessment works so there is no gap in care once coverage is approved.
